Senior Executive

We are seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Executive Director of Programs and Veterinary Services to join one of the Pacific Northwest's largest and most impactful animal welfare organizations. This contract-to-hire, fully onsite role is a rare opportunity to step into a transformational leadership position at a critical moment in the organization's history. The ideal candidate is an experienced veterinary operations leader who knows how to run a complex, multi-site organization - someone who leads with both clinical credibility and strong managerial instincts. This is not a purely clinical role. We are looking for someone who can manage people, drive accountability, and build a high-performing team.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all animal care programs and veterinary services across multiple facilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team including veterinary staff, animal welfare directors, and program managers
  • Partner with organizational leadership in a co-leadership model to drive strategy, budget, and operations
  • Ensure the highest standards of animal care and regulatory compliance across all departments
  • Manage a diverse workforce including union and non-union staff and volunteers
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, veterinary partners, and community stakeholders
  • Provide regular reporting and strategic updates to the Board of Directors
Required Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
  • Washington State DVM license in good standing by start date
  • Ability to obtain DEA license for shelter drugs
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of senior management experience in a mid to large sized animal welfare or veterinary services organization
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Experience managing budgets and driving operational outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Multi-site veterinary or animal welfare operations experience
  • Experience navigating union workforce dynamic
  • CAWA certification or equivalent credential
